Generally, railways are paying significant attention to the people’s safety and standardization of processes and technical systems. European standard EN 50126 defines the processes of setting requirements and confirmations, so called RAMS characteristics (English abbreviation RAMS - Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety is representing the set of concepts: reliability, availability, maintainability and safety) of a technical system that is applied at the railways. The Standard introduces and defines also the process of application of concept of risk when estimating the impact of technical system on safety at railways. This paper presents the summarized review of the Standard EN 50126 and particularly emphasizes the application of the concept of risk defined by this Standard. It is possible to apply the concept of risk at our railways but it requires fulfillment of conditions presented in the paper.
