The main purpose of this paper is to give an overview of the instruments available for achieving sustainable development of road transportation. Basically, there are five different sustainable transport instruments: planning, regulatory, information, technological and economic instruments. Special attention is given to the analysis of different type of economic instruments and their contribution to sustainable transport mobility.
